Addendum: Two other bedside books, c. 1998-2000, were a big black encyclopedia of literature my grandmother sent me and a c. 1980 single-volume paperback general encyclopedia, the names of both of which I forget. I was so hungry for information once.

Wish: That someone would adapt Calvino's "The Origin of the Birds" into comic strips. Little artistic talent would be needed, and it would be so satisfying. I'd actually love to see multiple interpretations. If I had anything valuable to use for a prize I'd declare a contest.

Hypothesis: Lady Gaga is a virgin. Nothing she sings about sex is recognizable or plausible.

really? bluffin with your muffin sounds implausible to your ear? i am kind of fascinated by the fact that she might have possibly the most generic, forgettable face i've ever seen. perhaps hence the get-ups.
