'00s movies I remember admiring, vaguely in order of magnitude:

Mulholland Drive, City of God, No Country for Old Men, Memento, Spirited Away, Burn After Reading, Napoleon Dynamite, Once, Assassination of Jesse James, Piano Teacher, AI, The Man Who Wasn’t There, Ghost World, Talk to Her, The 3 Deaths of Melquiades Estrada, Closer, Zodiac, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, Requiem for a Dream, 49 Up, The Dark Knight, Wall-E, Amelie, The Lives of Others, The Departed, Ratatouille, The Incredibles, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Little Miss Sunshine, Children of Men, Persepolis, Sicko, Eastern Promises, A History of Violence, The Terminal, War of the Worlds, Munich, All About My Mother, You Can Count on Me, Adaptation, Fog of War, Babel, 21 Grams, Before Night Falls, Monster’s Ball, Michael Clayton, Borat, Kinsey, Revolutionary Road, Redbelt, Super Size Me, Sideways, Good Night and Good Luck, Time Regained, Brick

Titus is listed as '99 but I remember it being the first movie I saw in 2000.

City of God is so great. The ending still haunts me from my first viewing. Its power is the reason I walked out of Slum Dog, I think.
