The Humbling isn't bad but it's not terribly good either; it's Exit Ghost territory again, but pure where that book was awkward and often unpleasant. Maybe more minimal than pure--even Exit Ghost still displayed some of Roth's more expansive glories, however curdled. This one played like an easy to take self-parody, an unexceptionable phone-in.

I'll never reread it, or Exit. I'll certainly reread Indignation someday. Loved that one.
