We've landed, in the sense that we're here and have internet and Canada doesn't feel like kicking me out any time soon. Most of the little things aren't working right, but that's moving for you. Many of the big things too, but that's the normal terrestrial spin, swing and tilt.

We haven't gotten all our stuff yet and when we do my vote is to throw it all in the basement and live like the traditional Japanese (I've never had a basement, though I've lived in basement apartments - it's dank and bare but its presence is somehow an immense relief). A couple mats on the floor, some silk wraps on your back, a bowl of rice. And a house apparently made of paper panels. That's where it's at. Live like a haiku.

I love the idea of Japanese style. The problem is: no place for books. Once you start letting them in, everything else starts following.

Only solution is flames. Maybe that's why they call it Kindle. And why [livejournal.com profile] firepower would be onto it.
