I never read Ammons but I could read Ammons forever.

Isn't that always the way.

Just happened across what has to be one of the funniest misfilings of Garbage ever--this while hunting up a copy of Sphere , which I like very much, despite being faintly alarmed at the idea that anyone might learn how to be a sexual being from Ammons.

Yeah, I was just thinking that.

You know his one line poem "Middle aged sex"?

"One failure on top of another."

Read or read?

Is that first "read" past tense or present? Never before, I mean, or never your practice?

Reed. Red lodes, noh thyme.

Glued to a trashcan?

I lose the thread in long Ammons but he's just as fascinating line by line.

Haha?

Glued to a trashcan?

Very nearly. I think I'd have to take a picture; words don't do it justice.

Yes, his sense of what a line is & does is strong & singular (vague sense it's more in how he binds a concept or image within a line rather than anything to do with musicality, whatever that means)--it's one of the things I must like about him, you make me realize.

Yeah, I like his etymology-consciousness, but his puns are a not always fortunate byproduct. A lot of humor's generation-bound, I guess?

Word.
