The happy song we sang was wrong.

To make it right we made it long.

Though long and light it now was tight.

We fluffed it loose as well we might.

Now loose as goose's spread caboose,

We sharpened it, as too obtuse.

Our mother wit judged such a fit

Too fat and so we flattened it.

We hopped in slow and sacred woe

Namo once someone made it glow.

Though glowing from thumb, tum and bum

It needed noise to make folks come.

We clever boys sewed clanging toys

Along each marge to jingle joys.

What next? Enlarge it from a targe

To something we could row: a barge.

Big size, big glee, sharp, bright to see,

Loud, loose, flat, free! Just right, say we.
