One sympathizes, but Hollande should really have resisted the temptation to kick Le Pen and co. out of what was among other things a free speech rally.

Sometimes it seems like only the fascists have any kind of long game.

Well, middle long.

He didn't. He invited everyone in who supports the basic values of the constitution of this old republic so everyone was waiting for what Le Pen would say and what she said was, that she would come but only if explicitly invited as if that call hadn't been for everyone. She then advised everyone of her party to demonstrate but not in Paris. Not that anyone missed her but that's what I saw live on TV and can remember. I personally went (but only here in this town where I live) because of Pelloux (the doctor and columnist who was first on place at Charlie Hebdo after someone there had called him saying "we need you here") asking everyone to please come on Sunday while crying composedly about his friends directly after the massacre. So I did go despite doubts and all my friends refusing.
