The second one you knew was called the Fall
The third you knew was somehow also Autumn
You watched the several after from the bottom
Of piles of brown and red and yellow leaves
That hooked inside your mouth and stuffed your sleeves
Through bright gray nook and notch you'd see what sky
Slipped past the leaves above and more above
That sky that's twice as grand though half as high
As spring and summer skies of light and love
The Fall begins before it now begins
It starts right when you see the sky is sinking
Then when you think it might be then when thinking
Soon it will
When soon's a year it wins
The second one you knew was called the Fall
The third you knew was somehow also Autumn
You watched the several after from the bottom
Of piles of brown and red and yellow leaves
That hooked inside your mouth and stuffed your sleeves
Through bright gray nook and notch you'd see what sky
Slipped past the leaves above and more above
That sky that's twice as grand though half as high
As spring and summer skies of light and love
The Fall begins before it now begins
It starts right when you see the sky is sinking
Then when you think it might be then when thinking
Soon it will
When soon's a year it wins
