Not knowing what appositives are lost me some GRE subject points, as did my confusion at having both 1920-1940 and 1940-1960 as available answers for "When did New Criticism flourish?" I picked the former because they seemed to be stressing Eliot in related questions, and Cleanth Brooks, who I guess I thought was earlier...probably confused The Well Wrought Urn with The Road to Xanadu. Anyway, that one was mean. I correctly guessed Kristeva as author of Desire in Language (or whichever)--just sounds like something she'd write. Also didn't know periphrasis...I don't think any undergrads read this but if so, learn all possible rhetorical terms before taking the Literature. And know what the funny letters are in Gower and the Gawain poem. Still, awfully easy on the whole.
