Jun. 8th, 2010 04:23 pmPicked up the final volume of Penguin's five new Borgeses. Among all of these there's less than 200 pages of new material, making this a pretty lame relaunch. Dividing up Borges by topic is pretty silly, too--how much did he write that couldn't be assimilated under "On Writing"?
Didn't even notice Library of America had put out a 2-volume, 2000 page selection from Emerson's journals a couple months ago. If only they'd had Bloom do it...but presumably with such a large proportion of the whole it includes nearly everything he'd have. I've read around in the journals a lot but the entirety always defeated me; this sounds like the exact right compromise.
