How can people be both so wonderful to be around and so boring to listen to? And you don't dare be interesting yourself or they close up. Or maybe that's just them being bored by what I'm offering as interesting - as it's their take on interesting I'm probably taking as boring. Offline, offmarriage interactions are so friendly, so charged, so sleep-inducingly unproductive.

Maybe I'm starting to understand what others get out of bars, concerts, crowds, even if I'm too deaf-paranoid to enjoy them long. Threat removed (alcohol helps, age does, safely shared silliness), it's nice to just be together. People are not books.

When they talk, anyway. Watching them they kind of are.
