10(ish). The Holy Mountain

Scattered semi-independent reactions:

- It makes sense that this movie exists.

- It fills a hole in my sense of the Seventies.

- May Jodorowsky find himself before a jury of animals.

- For some reason I thought this movie would be like Merhige's abysmal Begotten, avoided it.

- Which it might have been with an El Topo budget.

- But instead someone gave Jodorowsky Cremaster money.

- Fascinating how much one can agree with something and remain unmoved.

- Fascinating too how you can merely like that a certain kind of project was carried out.

- As I'm glad to have watched it but wish I hadn't had to watch it to get that gladness.

- Whereas I am glad about nothing about Cremaster.

- Which is now robbed even of its title of discovering a new form of failure.

- Aguirre and Heart of Glass do what El Topo and Holy Mountain wish to do.

- And yet Jodorowsky wins at excess, beats probably everyone ever.

- And excess would seem to be part of that wish to do.

- Proving less is more even when the topic is all things.

- Adding: Looks like Lennon and wife gave him that Cremaster money.

- Also Lennon sings backup on and cowrote Bowie's Fame, I heard recently - who knew?

- Looks like the novel by Daumal it was partly plagiarizing inspired some Varo paintings, including the one Pynchon directly describes in Crying.
