Pizzolatto's coming out as a "beleaguered romantic" made me wonder where I'd heard the phrase before - presumably some self-descriptive passage by Bloom, but I couldn't find it on a cursory search. Still, you can see why I'd look; very Bloomian thing to say. And his fascination with the death-to-life school parallels how Bloom's clearly been affected by Leopardi's siren song in recent years. Come die, come die.

Julie read his novel and said it was good not great, but that it did make her cry.
