It was a war in that someone sought to kill you before you accomplished your objective of killing that someone. And that all around you everyone was in the same position.

It was not a war in that the someone could not be killed.

But overhearing this assessment you realized the power of metaphor, that if a war that was not a war could exist perhaps killing without killing could too, and why not.

You dallied for a while over how the someone might kill you but not.

Then how you might even though no not really kill the someone.

Became so busy dallying you forgot to be killed.
