And then in order to damage-control it someone in the White House leaked to the Times that the secret backchannel was just for secret patriotism? Suggests that the Post, which got a letter about the backchannel meeting right in December (same month it happened) has either been unable to get it confirmed till today or was trying to put together an even bigger story.
Then there's the weird recent revelation that Comey hamstrung Clinton because he thought that that fake Russian Lynch-smearing document would be released if he didn't publicly meddle. Which would only make sense if someone had actually threatened to release it ... like someone later, apparently, threatened to release the info that Abedin might have more Clinton emails. Starting to wonder if that "someone" was necessarily just pro-Trump FBI assholes like the Brooklyn group. If Putin planted it to bring down Clinton, and then Comey closed the investigation to thwart Putin (while incidentally carpetbombing Clinton with the "extremely careless" bit), it seems a little strange that he'd get exactly what he wanted as a fortuitous aftershock.
Clearly there's holes in the story we've been given that, filled, would make it a much different one. Gotta wonder if Comey, the Post, maybe others have been letting this stuff continue to happen in order to land the really big fish. Risky game, if so.
