it is true. i was without Awareness of McCarthy until ... Pittsburgh. had a, um, falling out with some persons i'd moved up there with, people who were McCarthy partisans (an operation of Time and Chance, i realize ..) and this soured me on what would've surely been a rewarding program of reading.

this was long ago.

these days i am preoccupied with a get-rich-s.l.o.w. sceme, having noted that my co.generationalist J.K. Rowling has more money than the Queen, i am setting out to make a "Young Adult" novel: two friends - young women - from High School to separate colleges, a boy, an "Old Man" (i.e., 38) of uncertain identity .. covering 1977 to 1981. and, sure, a Body will be discovered because - at heart - i am a traditionalist.

.. so, um, all reading is being filed as "research," a process i'm keeping flexible (at the moment it's a collection of essays by Florence King). and i am keen to read McCarthy if it's the *right* McCarthy. looking over his bibliography, i discover two (potentially) cogenial titles: Suttree and Cities of the Plain. your thoughts on this are appreciated. manythanks !
