Please someone put it better

I saw a running man beside the road
Holding a child-sized dog against his chest
Halfway between a stalled car and an exit
Halfway between two towns along the highway
At the sinister turn of a great autumnal blowing

The exit was unpromising at best
With only one lot of derelict cars in sight

A storm so mad it forgot almost all its rain
The kind of storm that rips away the palette
Claws up a gleaming thing beneath each color

The sort of wind for once that isn't kidding

Weeds milling like a man about to fall
Between us while beyond him all the trees
Pushed right against his left as though a part
Of what he fought against and not more victims
Except for flakes of color torn away
Like men no longer able to hold on

His turncoat coat joined in to pull him back

Me driving with a baby in the back
Thinking, I'm a man with a baby in the back
Which was no more true than something else I was:
Part of how "Nobody came, because nobody does."

You run with your legs when you're holding a dog through a wind
With a comma shaped thing in each knee they forgot to name
The only thing fighting that sideways cavein of air
Put in sight by the trees by the coat by the weeds by the rain

Sometimes the painter of pictures forgets the frame
And you're stuck with a man with a dog and how nobody came

I really like this. And I like the title for the title.

This is a new favorite. Love it.

In my defense I was also running late, because of the weather ("severe winds on Skyway"), to pick up my 79 year old mother at the airport across the border.
