Volodine, particularly, has daemonism & polyphony. The jacket copy of Minor Angels I think gives too much away about the structure of the book's 49 "narracts," as he calls his little torrents of prose. I mean, there's some link claimed among them that I've read on the back of the book though can't yet see in the book itself.
Oh, also living, though more my friend's writer than mine: James Purdy. Though I only like certain works: the story "63 Dream Palace," and the novel I Am Elijah Thrush, especially.
