proximoceptionAnd what to make of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man/Ulysses? The beginning of Ulysses is so close to Portrait that I think the two books should always be printed in one volume, but Ulysses wrenches away from the Stephen character completely, then brings him back hardly recognizable--a one-book version of that multivolume curse of lost intentions.
