A propos some other post of yours, way back: Children of Men was really good. It stayed with me afterwards, unlike some things I saw at the film festival.

It had a much better understanding of what narrative allegory should do than Pan's Labyrinth, and, unlike Babel, knew which topics require a drop of it. Impressed me more than anything I've seen recently, barring a documentary or two.

How's Moby-dick?

A chore. I like the more digressive, essayistic chapters, but when something is supposed to happen in the story of hunting the white whale, I get bored.

Ha! Opposite of what you hear from most people. Abridged versions invariably cut the chapters on whale parts, navigation etc. I think I loved it all equally.
