I think this year's been a good test of what happens to me when I don't get to read and discuss what I love. I become kind of a jerk.

Though having to read, discuss, teach what I very much do not love and was entirely unprepared to might have as much to do with it - see the middle section of I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla-Sollew.

And meanwhile everything else went wrong. But maybe there's an adult ed. class on autodejerkification I can take in the summer.

The same thing happens to me. (I can be quite a jerk, I've realized - in that sort of passive aggressive way.) I think it's only reasonable, really. Or, if one has to read and discuss what one doesn't love, it's at least easier to do if there's some sort of understanding that it's a means to a more preferable end.
