Let's take it down to threes.

Best movies of the '00s:
1. Mulholland Drive
2. Ghost World
3. Titus

(Caveats: I have seen very few movies of the '00s and I like AI more than you do.)

Best songs of the '00s:
1. Crazy
2. Just Dance
3. On a Boat

(Caveats: I have heard next to no music of the '00s and have terrible taste in music.)

Best television shows of the '00s:

1. Futurama
2. Lost
3. Curb Your Enthusiasm

(Caveats: I don't watch many shows and the Futurama movies are awful.)

Best books of the '00s:

1. Endless Things
2. Sunset Limited
3. The Beauty of the Husband

(Caveat: Those are a large proportion of the '00s books I've even read.)

Best moments of the '00s:

3. That morning.
2. That day.
1. That time.

Those are all interesting choices. Probably the first time I've ever seen Titus and Mulholland Drive juxtaposed. Love them both.

Best television shows of the '00s:

The Wire, no contest.

2. Sunset Limited

The only book of the '00s I've read other than The Road (the former on your recommendation) and Anthony Doerr's About Grace.

Taymor's been a disappointment since, though Frida had some strong moments. What did you think of Sunset?

I liked it. Dialog was strong (the dialog was probably the only thing that made The Road worth reading IMHO) and I thought Black made a very sympathetic, convincing character. I thought White wasn't really developed or as believable as he could have been, but it was still great to read.

Funny, [livejournal.com profile] andalus was telling me about a day ago the exact opposite, that the dialogue was the liability in The Road.

I think the dialogue in The Road is perfect. But, then, I spend more time every day speaking with children under age 8 than I do talking to adults.

Did s/he think it was done badly or just shouldn't have been done at all?

It said it was inferior to the dialogue in Blood Meridian, All the Pretty Horses & The Crossing.

From the reviews on amazon Doerr's sounds like Hawthorne's "Wakefield" meets a Terrence Malick movie.

RE: Lady Gaga... "Poker Face" was definitively the strip club anthem of the year. Not sure about decade...

Poker Face is great but extremely silly. I poke my wife in the face every time I'm instructed by the car radio. (With a finger.)

While Love Game is intolerably awful, especially the lyrics: "I see you across the block / With a smile on your mouth and your hand on your HUNH"; "You've indicated your interest / I'm educated in sexyes." Dear God.
