what a relief to see a list like this; I am one of those people that leans heavily on suggestions. if it's up your alley, you might check out [livejournal.com profile] theflickyoucrew or [livejournal.com profile] thebookyoucrew; I haunt there for recommendations.

The flickyou people seem a bit Young: the one or two Tarkovsky or Kurosawa movies they've seen are usually listed among Hellraiser, Caddyshack, etc. I remember Pauline Kael's remark on the teenagers she overheard saying Titanic was the best movie they'd ever seen: it probably was.

hello! what about the other community!!! that's the GOOD ONE!!

this is my other online identity, by the way. I thought you should know that, before this commenting thing got out of hand, actually I'm just too lazy to maintain the lie.

On first inspection I thought these were innocent recommendation communities rather than haze-a-thons. Shocking.

I think I'll apply to both. I've never done a 20, and maybe this way I can actually discuss some of these works with people.

shock fever!

I wouldn't get into those communities in a million years, and that self-knowledge is comforting for some reason.

I'm currently applying to 33_overs, a list community; however, they hate me.

I look forward to rubbernecking on your applications. It seems ratings are one of those necessary evils to keep artistic communities active.

Invective's addictive. Probably best I was banned from both before it got further out of hand.
