Interesting how when the self-esteem dial starts moving it does it in that wobbly pressure meter way - I'm more often feeling like an actual human presence, taking up some certain amount of space and with some quantum of social significance, even value when inspected very closely. But it comes at the cost of sometimes feeling like a weed by the wall, a definite demotion from the previous ghostliness. Probably worth it, but pain.
In his Stevens book Bloom said or implied he thought Long and Sluggish Lines was about death, its approach. For me it's always described, and past perfectly, the discomfort of coming alive, which for some reason feels like it's happened many more times than I've died or been dying. Bloom's always right, but I hang onto some of my wrongs.
