Oh and we saw Blue Valentine and were kind of awed, especially by Williams. Couldn't quite tell whether Gosling is also a great actor or really that annoying. Julie said it didn't compare with Scenes from a Marriage, her favorite Bergman. I guess it doesn't but it sure was good.

Michelle Williams is the great unsung actor of her generation. She's never not wonderful, as far as I have seen. And so often she gets these thankless roles, elevating them nonetheless. One day she'll get her due.

I think you're right. She made good impressions in Synecdoche NY and Brokeback Mountain when a lot else didn't, for some of us.
