Maddy's 2. And speaking in sentences when she feels like it. And deceiving - when she doesn't want to be put down in the crib for quiet time she demands to be picked up for a hug, in hopes that once she's out again she can somehow make a break for it. She knows we want those hugs. Feels like every day we love her more.

The deceiving tricks appear to be learnt early, then...
Here, there are any number of methods to try and avoid what is not wanted or get at what is craved, not all of them kosher. We try and balance it somehow inbetween having to say no and allowing things, there are a lot of shady shades.
On the night of the 14th, I gained some evasive popularity by making it possible for the Short Ones to see the fireworks.
Their dad was against it ("too late" though I think, he was really meaning: "I don´t support nationalist festivities at all and also not fireworks for perfectly valid political reasons") but I argued "come on, it´s the festive day of everyone who lives here, there is no school because of summer vacation and fireworks may cost money and pollute the air but are also quite lovely to watch so I will and they can with me, can´t they?"

We have a wonderful view of the river from our window and that was where the fireworks were started from off a boat.
Very exciting it was, the Short People were allowed to stay up late after all ("ouäää") and the fireworks were a bit scary for Little Guy (and the tiny house-mice who were freaked out from behind the fridge shrieking with fear) "but me; I´m not afraid anymore, like the mice, now that I´m A Big Guy" and just beautiful to Princess Leia (her latest incarnation).

Yeah, they´re not my kids but I allow myself to love them, too.
