"Authority was invented to give the old a fighting chance against the young. Unconfused they could so easily overrun us. A difficult period is the one after someone has discovered this fact but before it's clear to them that they too will soon be old. It was to pacify this group that we invented currency - the promise that wants you don't even have yet will be fulfilled. They didn't yet know that there is nothing else worth wanting other than removing those older from your neck and those younger from your heels. Everything else was granted when whoever they were decided to stay together in whatever forest night. That you didn't know what to do after stepping free of our loathsome systems, forms, calendars, rules and pauses was all we had."

"Then why is it you watch us so searchingly? Your ploy has worked. You are safe."

"We want to see what you will buy."

The answer to the dream I had this morning but given before I had that dream. I googled it because I like to cheat but found nothing on it. I suspect you. I do.

It's always a tribute to a post when a reader goes to Google to find out who wrote it.

I certainly hope so like I expect to learn a little by it though I know, I ought not to gobbledygook but use mnemoniacs only but you know my fear of pill-mongers. I could have sworn I had read it somewhere, Plato, Nietzsche, Rilke, Chesterton or Stevens perhaps all out on probation having a drink discussing us twelve MRD monkeys? Anyway, I am currently Learning French by way of a game the girl of the house thought up: she reads out the various définitions except the clear give-aways from her school dictionary (she is nine) and we guess at the word. F. who wins has answers that count only half of those of Yours Truly and Speedy (eight yrs now). Hey! I even got two points last night but the boys won; the tinier of them getting all shaky and upset when he doesn't know things though his intuition works just fine. Am so proud of being able to follow and then I make the girl note the words so I get the orthography. Best Family Game ever but not for mafiosi; you guys! (It's not Marianne Moore, is it?) Hxly! Must now go get the kids from school so I have someone to ask.

So "We" want something too, and are willing to pay for it, in the our fiat currency.

Look at all the reductive stuff "you" get!

But anyway n+1 is the new n.

Speaking of which (my reply to karinmollberg) did I ever tell you my fish story, I mean my "Fish" story? A friend was teaching in a freshman seminar called "Writing From Experience." Kid hands in "The Fish," without line-endings. Friend calls her in: What's up with this? Kid... puzzled. Friend: Perhaps this will refresh your memory, handing her a copy of the Complete Poems. Kid, continues to be puzzled, reads "The Fish." Shock and dismay. "I had no idea! My roommate handed this paper in first semester and got an A!"
