The great to good drama t.v. seasons, among what I've seen:
The Wire 4 & Breaking Bad 5
The Wire 3
Breaking Bad 4
Breaking Bad 3
The Wire 1
The Wire 2
Breaking Bad 2
The Wire 5
("Great" cutoff approximately here.)
Mad Men 5
Hannibal 2
Twin Peaks 2 (subtracting maybe 8-10 terrible episodes)
Twin Peaks 1
Mad Men 6
Mad Men 4
Deadwood 2
Deadwood 3
Better Call Saul 1
The Walking Dead 5
Breaking Bad 1
The Leftovers 1
The Walking Dead 4
Six Feet Under 1
Mad Men 1
Game of Thrones 4
Hannibal 1
American Horror Story 2
Latter group covering a wide range from "very very good almost great" to "on the whole rather good I guess."
Not counting miniseries like Angels in America and the two great Bergmans.
Wouldn't know how to rank dead-to-me Lost or the Buffy shows, though perhaps parts of some belong among the later rungs. Trying to watch The Sopranos now that there's subtitles, but it's going slowly. Haven't managed to get through The Shield pilot yet, or the terrible Battlestar miniseries thing, or deep into The Americans, Treme, Rectify, Slings and Arrows, The West Wing or Freaks and Geeks. Julie's pulling me through Orange Is the New Black season 2, says I wouldn't make it through 1. Seems good at times.
Mad Men 7 will be on there somewhere I assume, though this Hopper waitress thing hasn't won me over yet.
Of '90s shows other than Peaks I think I at the time watched just ER, and only for its first eight weeks. And some Northern Exposure, off and on in I think season 2.
Have since watched Law and Order, but it's the least serial of shows - and maybe no season of it averages to "good." And NYPD Blue's and Murder One's first seasons, which were both pretty ridiculous.
Maybe Six Feet Under 5 should be on there for its ending and some other good parts, since I'm letting Twin Peaks 2 on. Mad Men 2 and 3 I don't remember that well, past the impression that they were kind of boring. Justified 2 was watchable but not a lot more, and I stopped there.
