proximoceptionNightcrawler wasn't the most pleasant experience but it was an interesting Trojan horse film. The lead turns out to not even be a character but pure personification, kept vaguely plausible for a while by our willingness to accept pretty much anything presented as sociopathy. We tend to not accept that we know these people, hence have an appetite for scarecrows, mockups that fit some of the details - so here the shameless eye contact aspect becomes lemurlike non-blinking.
It doesn't even care about its own premise except as symptom. I guess the point is that the monster has so many areas of life wrapped in its tentacles that each squeeze stands in for any and all.
What movies show corporate logos in that innocent, whistling sort of way? Fast Food Nation and Cradle Will Rock had their agendas on their sleeves, but maybe started the trend. I feel I've seen it elsewhere recently, though, in a similarly near-subliminal way, which is odd because I watch so few movies. I think this one's going to nag at me. Ah well.
