I don't know who half the people on the mandatory gossip feed(s) to the right even are. They mostly sound like terrible people, though perhaps they're just being slandered. Context suggests they're connections of the Kardashians, but I'm still not entirely clear on what a Kardashian is. One of those things where you kind of enjoy being an inverse detective - waiting to see how long it will take before things you're actively trying to not know are splashed into your comprehension. I still have no idea what the Balloon Boy was. Just sounded like something where I wouldn't be made happier by finding out. I first tried it with the OJ trial - actually stopped watching any television for months - but ended up knowing most of the iconic details anyway, alas. With JonBenet I only know she was in pageants and everyone things her father did it. With Jodi Arias I just know she may have killed someone in Italy or something etc. Actually the crime ones are less about testing the limits of cultural saturation and more about a near-total lack of interest in murder. Individual instances, anyway. Among things we seem to be hardwired to not resist, crime news strikes me as the biggest waste of time in the world. (Which is totally fine if that's how you like to waste time. When I had more of it I did sudoku and stuff.) Still, it's provocative when others throw around new proper names in a way where you're clearly supposed to already know them. Probably there's an age where I won't give a shit, and not from principle or whatever was stopping me before but from having given up on keeping current. The feed people with Ys where Is should be make me wonder if I'm near that.
