Putting the word "Calvino" on a fire truck in the background and making me nostalgic for Vancouver's three lovely universities is all well and good, but this better not be just a multi-hour remake of Cronenberg's Spider except with X-Men.
I tried to watch it last night but fell asleep after 30 minutes. Granted, I was tired from shoveling snow. It better be good if we had to wait over a year for Fargo b/c of it.
Probably going to be several episodes before it's at all clear where any of this is going. I dimly remember the character from an '80s comic issue. His superpower is pretty much godhood. So the Cartesian possibility of a partly unconscious god may be involved. If your unconscious creates your reality you will never be able to tell if it is hallucinated, is the problem with being both god and crazy. And technically none of us can tell if we are that god. Just a wild stab about where this might go if it moves past already overcultivated Cronenberg territory.
I wonder what Calvino text we're supposed to think of. Better not be The Castle of Crossed Destinies. Maybe the Invisible Cities intertexts? Where Khan both is his Empire and estranged from it?
