Jan. 23rd, 2013 03:10 pmManaged to avoid reading Bourdieu till now. He inevitably reminded me of Crowley's In Blue, which demolishes field/cloud theory using pretty much the same amazing nudge as Borges performs in The Congress to kiss to death any activist Hegelianism. Among which Bourdieu's "sociology" can maybe be categorized? Couldn't tell from the two essays assigned.
I imagine he was a nice enough guy, despite making and perpetuating a destructive and pretty basic mistake. I did like his insistence that Foucault was a structuralist and essentialist. Thinking of Foucault's fury at the charge (if he lived to hear it) amused me, though I admit it's unfair in a couple senses.
